Rant 003: Sounding like a Whale giving Birth!

So hahaha

Before reading this I know there will be friends, colleagues and associates who already know what

(or whom) I am referring to.

Don't spoil the party just yet for everyone else.

Lets begin!

Now first of all, I expect and encourage noise at any gym. Especially when working hard. The gym

isn't a library and should never be quiet. It is a space for stress release and working hard and hitting

your fitness goals.

I wish more gyms where like Steel City in Middlesbrough where the music is pumping and everyone

is pushing each other. Another example is Westside Barbell in America. We can all agree on that.

We can also all agree on the odd grunt and loud noise during a max attempt or a final drop set. Video

is Westside Vs The World movie which explains this culture more.

However...........

What I do have a pet peeve is someone moaning or making sexual noises every rep, every set on

every exercise.

Due to one's ego wanting to make everyone around you believe you are working harder than them.

When in fact you shouldn't be focusing on anyone else but yourself when training.

You may be asking;

Reader: What does said noises sound like? They can't be that bad

Me: see video below

This video is a prankster making "sexual noises" in a gym but I swear on all my lifting equipment

and love of powerlifting that this is literally what I (and others) hear in the University Gym on a

daily basis.

I know training releases Endorphins but it may also be realising something else for these fellas 😉

when they are doing lateral dumbbell raises being spotted from behind by their "bros".

I couldn't decide on one image that summed this up so here is two I found lol

Takeaway Points

  • Work hard in the Gym, turn the music up and motivate training partners (but don't be rude or childish when training)
  • DON'T MAKE SEXUAL NOSIES WHEN TRAINING. You can breathe normally and make a grunt here and there but calling out shamoo for some afternoon hokey pokey behind the gym lockers is uncalled for.

Be as Athletic as an Astartes Space Marine!

Hi Everyone

I hope all is well

This is a new type of blog post I am doing, more for fun than anything else.

I am talking about what the training Astartes Space Marines would do to get in such immense physical shape!

If you know me well enough I love this area of fiction and lore. So much so you have heard me yell it during training haha

Enjoy!

If you know any 40k fan this is for them!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In short Space Marines are freaks of nature monsters that are designed to be the best of mankind and can do almost anything.

The best (and funniest) description that I have read to describe their physiology is by the RussianBadger (Youtube Channel linked in Video).

Watch from 00:54 - 02:01 just describes their insane physiology

Here is what (I think) they would train like

In no particular order

Periodisation of Programs

These are the types of programs these weapons of death may of ran. It would include the following;

  • German Volume
  • Smolov Junior and Senior
  • Russian Squat Program
  • Boring but Big
  • Shieko

etc etc

High volume, high intensity pushing their strength limits beyond what is possible! Regarding exercises.....

Big Compounds = Big Results

As Boris would say......

via GIPHY

  • Squat
  • Overhead press
  • Pull Up
  • Row
  • Deadlift
  • Clean
  • Snatch
  • Farmer Walks
  • Atlas Stones
  • Prowlers
  • Sprints
  • Tyre Flips
  • Bench Press

These freaks would have the strength of a few top tier elite level powerlifters/strongmen and the fitness to sprint over and over yet never tire. Thanks to their 2 hearts and 3 lungs.

It is as if someone made a cheat code for humanity and then clicked the "enter" button to see the final results.

Recovery and Adaptation

Now these guys are genetically modified so there would of some form of Androgenic Anabolic Steroid usage going on in the 41st Millenieum of the Imperium of Man.

Who can fault them, they are fighting the forces of chaos and all Xenos spawn from the warp!

As Primarch Guilliman would say when both training and fighting the enemy.........

Yet being too big can still be a hindrence even for these guys!

In the Novel, "Deathwatch" by Steve Parker this is an section taken from it when an Imperial Fist Space Marine kept doing weight work haha (taken from a reddit thread)

Steve Parker's Deathwatch

Perhaps it was a kind of unconscious compensation, but Voss had become prone to voluntary sessions of extreme physical training. His muscles swelled beyond their already significant gene-boosted mass. His armour had to be adjusted by the Chapter’s tech-servitors. Then it had to be adjusted again, and again. Finally, he had been told – no, commanded! – to grow no thicker. His strength and power had outstripped those around him, but concerns had arisen about his mobility in the field. So far, these had not been borne out. But nevertheless, with some reluctance, Voss had acceded to the demands of his superiors. He grew no bigger and, from that moment, trained only to maintain what he had.

PS If you want to hear one great story from the Universe of Warhammer 40k then look no further than this fan movie of one of the books. Titled: Helsreach

Amazing story and vocabulary about the Black Templars focusing on Reclusiarch Grimaldus

Rant 002: Not putting your weights away after using Them!

This is by far one of the eternal sins of mankind.

Not being over dramatic but my god. If you use a weight at least put it back to where you got it from so others can use it.

Not the following;

  1. Leave the weight where you were last using it
  2. Just fling it somewhere in the gym
  3. Put it near where you got it
  4. Put it in the wrong area even tho it is labelled where to put it

I don't understand, if I was in your house and I went to get your milk, use it for cereal (as an example). I wouldn't then go and leave it in the toilet, or on the sofa or next to the fridge. You would expect me to put it back in the fridge.

It is just guys who do this.

In all my time of working in gyms I have never seen girls leave weights or equipment lying around the gym. It is always the classic late teen early twenty year old who thinks he is Zyzz (which is another laughable joke in another rant).

If any of you young men struggle to put away your 15kg dumbbells for super set shoulder lateral and frontal raises. I will be sure to to call you out in the gym and make you come back to clean it up.

Don't believe me just ask my colleagues at work they have seen me do it a hundred times.

To end this short rant, as Dr Jordan Peterson would say.....

Cant wait to see him this November!!
